I am overclocking my Q8300 and have got it 3GHz - 400FSB and i have the DRAM Freq at 1066. Whenever i got to increase the FSB for more overclock the DRAM freq increases as well. How do i increase the speed that my CPU runs at and keep my RAM at 1066?

Thanks

In the BIOS there should be a line which mentions DRAM Freq, this can be a multiplier or divider. Adjust this and this drop the memory speed.

I have tried this but when i increase the FSB from 400 to 415 the speeds under the DRAM freq have also increased and 1066 is not avalable. When increasing to 415 FSB the DRAM Freq automatically increases to 1106:(

The speeds avaliable when increasing the FSB to 415 are:831,997,1041,1106,1248,1329,1384,1663. So the nearest one would be 1041.

But is there no way to keep it at 1066 while increasing the FSB??

You will need to choose one and either, overclock more to get to 1066 or choose the higher one and drop the overclock.

Best bet is if your stable choose 1041mhz and leave at that :)

The ram speed will only ever be a ratio of the FSB that is calculated by a divider pre set into the bios. If you want exactly 1066 then adjust the FSB till the bios gives you the option of choosing that speed.

Hi drumdogg,

it is only possible to have the memory running exactly at DDR2-1066 if your have the FSB set to one of these frequencies

  • 266MHz [1:2] 533MHz DDR2-1066
  • 333MHz [5:6] 533MHz DDR2-1066
  • 400MHz [3:4] 533MHz DDR2-1066
  • 533MHz [1:1] 533MHz DDR2-1066
Once you stray from any of the above FSB speeds you will need to settle of slightly higher or slightly lower memory speeds . . . I tend to go for slightly higher if the sticks can handle it! :)
