I have recently bought a Dell Dimension 5150. And I haven't got a clue whats in it!!!! I know the general info, P4 3GHz, 1024 Mb RAM etc. but how can I find out exactly whay the componants are, and, more importantly, what would be appropriate upgrades?????

It's driving me nuts!!!!

Could also go through Device Manager if you want component detail but not necessarily in total Everest detail.

Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager

Or open it up and have a look - you'll also learn what does what and where!

Go to Windows -> Run
Enter DXDiag then press OK

This will bring up the Microsoft DirectX Diagnostics App which runs through your pc building up a spec list and other information such as current drivers etc.

Once it has finished you can have a browse through the tabs or by saving the information you can generate a text file containing a full breakdown which is useful for conveying a machines components / configuration to others.

Hope this helps.

Single word... GRAPHICS...

X800 GTO
X800 ICEQII
X850 XT
X1800GTO
X1800XL
X1800XT
X1900XT

Are a good range of options.. I've included the X1800GTO as it seems competitively prices and has features the X8xx series doesn't but not entirely sure of it's performance.

Price ranges from £50+vat to over £300 and all are better options than your current graphics. basically work out your budget and buy the card that fits.

I agree but thats just a tad biased! :p

Add the 7800GT, 7600GT, 6800GS and 7900GT to that list.

Either the X1800GTO or the £176 7800GT i would say for a worthwhile upgrade,

hehe yeah I know it is although the only one I'd add to the list is a the 7800GT perhaps instead of the X1800XL. 7900GT and 6800GS are both outperformed by their ATI compatriots. It's possible the 7600 is a better choice than the X1800GTO tho.

X800 GTO
X800 ICEQII
X850 XT
X1800GTO/7600GT
X1800XL/7800GT
X1800XT
X1900XT

There fixed :p
