How do I know when to top up water tank?

Is there a rule of thumb people use so they know when it's time to top up the water tank?

Do people let it drop the half way filled before they top it up?

I have a tube res and mine is about 75% full. I should top it up to maintain the aesthetic aspect, but not too fussed at present. The import thing is to make sure you have enough fluid to stop the pump running dry.

Yea this seems to be about 75 to 80% full. I wasn't sure if it had to be 100%.

I'm fast trying to learn about the whole water cooling systems thing.

I always leave mine around 80% full and top up when it drops from there when required.

You needn't worry about keeping it full. As long as there is enough to stop air getting into the pump the it'll be fine.

It shouldn't need topping up though. The water shouldn't go anywhere unless there is a leak.
