How do I make Firefox open a gmail window when I click on an email addy instead of...

Well I think the email link must be a "mailto:[email protected]" to start with. The mailto: makes Window open the default mail client on the PC so you'd have to change the default mail client. I'm not entirely sure if you could define a URL to Gmail rather than use an exe like Thunderbird. I've just looked at the Set Program Access And Default menu and I can't see how that can be made to run a URL although you could tell it to run Firefox or IE but can't see how you'd pass the URL in there for Gmail.

I just quickly googled and found http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555566 for IE and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Default_mail_client for FF. It seems for Thunderbird you specify that it is the default email client within TB so since FF has no email abilities I doubt you could get FF to act as an email client and open a window to Gmail for you.

//Edit// Too late. :rolleyes:

Thanks for info people!

I seemed to remember that Gmail did used to open when I clicked an addy.

Thought I'd imagined it, but now you mention it I DID used to have Gmail Notifier installed!

I uninstalled it because of the annoying log in prompt it threw up every time Windows booted. :(

So are you not going to try it again? It might have changed since then?

That would be just the ticket!

Doesn't let me install it though as it says its only compatible up to version 1.5. :(

Anyway around that issue?

(Marklister......I only uninstalled Notifier a fairly short while ago so doubt its been altered. Might install it again to see though. :))

EDIT: Its ok, found an updated version of webmailcompose. Just about to try it. :)

LOL, after all that.............it was unnecessary!!

In FF2.2 there is an option to set Gmail as your default email proggy so it opens a gmail window as default! Doh!! :D

Surprisingly, the option to do this is in................Options. ;) :D
