hello i am a bit of a newbie on the mac osx front is there any way when i open a program safari, firefox , itunes ect that when it opens it fills the screen rather than an small box that i have to strech

cheers

Press the little green + icon, then stretch it to the size you want.

Once you've done that it will automatically remember that size, and continue to use it until you tell it to go smaller :)

talking about resizing windows... if i open a finder window and drag it the size I want it always resets to its normal small size when i reopen it.. is there any way that finder window size states can be remembered?

Yes, but it's a tad more complicated to explain.

Open the finder by clicking the icon in the dock.. go to a random folder; "Movies" in this example. From here, stretch the finder window to the size you'd like.

Once you've got a decent size, backtrack out of the folder by pressing back /level up until you get back to the user home folder (default location when you open finder); now close Finder.

If you now open finder from the dock it should remember that previous size.. however, if you open the HD drive icon from the desktop then it might show a smaller finder window, to get around this simply navigate to the HDD when backtracking and it will set a size to remember.

Thanks for the tip - It has been a pet hate of mine since I started using OS X
