Hi there,

Im doing some work to my house, and i have to pull out my cable connection to the room it was put in.

I was hoping that i could just push the cable through the wall with the coax? connector still on it, but it seems that its too big to fit through, so now i have to cut the cable and put the connector back on - but thats my problem.

I have no idea how to do this and ive tried to google it but had no luck.
I was hoping someone could tell me what tools i would need, the coax connectors types, and maybe a video/diagram of how to do it?

thank you.

They are called F connectors. Go to your local electronics store and ask them. Just search google for f connector. What you do is remove the plastic sheath, unfray the braid, uncover the core and that makes your pin for the centre. You then screw the connector on and viola! Done. However, that probably doesnt make much sense.

But the connector you are talking about is an F connector. Your local store can probably show you how to do it.

Hi there thanks for the reply - i've understood what you mean, but im sure when the engineer came to do it, they used some sort of crimping tool to get a good fit. And isnt the screw part for your normal tv arieal cables?

You can get them in both crimp-on (i.e. requiring crimping tool) and twist-on (as PhillyDee explained). The twist-on ones are more expensive, but if you're just doing a couple it'll be a lot cheaper than buying the crimping tool.

i've rerouted my cable connection before, even replaced the entire length of coax right back to the box on the outside of the house, as long as the little silver box that splits the signal is still in the right place you should be fine.

the connections i used were simple screw on ones and were about £4 for 100.
