I have a 500GB HDD and I want to partition about 100GB of it as I plan to format and I only have the one HDD. I want to backup my games on the partition and then copy them back over once the format is done.

Is it possible to do that? If so do I need to use an application or can it be done through windows?

Cheers

Disk Management console mate will allow you to create a partition and the format it.

Need more help with this?

You can create partitions through disk management, but i think you would have to delete the volume and reformat it into 2 partitions. If there is stuff on this 500GB drive, I would try to shrink the existing partition then add another 100GB partition. I know this can be done in windows 8 disk management, But otherwise you may have to use some software like EaseUS.

You won't have to delete the volume, you can shrink the disk down to 400GB/100GB and then copy over what you need, then format the 400GB partition.

That was easier than I thought, thanks guys.

So my new petition is on volume D. That means that on the format screen I format everything except volume D?

Cheers

Seriously, buy a second hard drive.

You should have at least two. Unless you really don't care about any of your data.

To be honest I don't. I only have games on my HDD. However I will be getting an SSD soon so I can then make the 500GB purely storage. :)
