How do I play Titan Quest properly?

I own titan Quest plus its expansion the Immortal Throne on steam.

I started playing Titan Quest, and I am several hours in. I have started to get very annoyed about the stupidly small inventory, I am always having to shuffle back and forth with portals. I never played diablo, and the first game I played of this type was torchlight where they seem to have rather refined the loot/inventory mechanic.

I heard that Immortal throne improves on the inventory system. I then read that it just adds a final chapter, but to get there you start from the beginning of the titan quest campaign. I also read that you can import your character, so i thought I would do just that - import my character and play through the titan quest campaign from within the immortal throne, and benefit from the improved mechanics. I have tried to do this, but several things seem to be wrong, firstly regardless of where I save, i always seem to start right at the beginning of the game, and secondly I cant pick up any loot! Please let me know how I do this properly?

Also, I believe that they might be some keys you can press to highlight loot/ high value loot. Please let me know what they are, I believe this will alleviate somewhat my irritations with the inventory.

Town portal > Sell items to merchants/Store items you want to use later in a storage chest

That's all there is to it.

what storage chests?

Also how is immortal throne supposed to work? should I have been able to import my character and play through the titan quest campaign from within Immortal Throne?

Don't have a lot of experience with the game but I remember there was a storage chest npc in the first major town you visited.

When playing the game, launch Immortal Throne (rather than the standard Titan Quest option). The first game plays out in its entirety before Immortal Throne kicks in seamlessly.

man been awhile since I played TQ - I think there was a button that made things more organized in the inventory ...

good game thou

You unlock more inventory space in each chapter.

Not sure why you're starting at the beginning each time unless you've missed the little checkpoint fountain things.

As for loot...

Alt Key - show items on ground (non broken)
Z Key - show items (all)
X Key - show items (non common)

Alt is probably most useful early on, swap to X when you're done caring about the lesser loot.

Yep, do this. Then in the towns you'll find an NPC called caravan trader or something like that; he's your storage.

Also, if you can get a friend, play this co-op as it is awesome co-op! (same game just seems way more fun :D)

Remember to hold down the "Alt" button, this allows you to see any items that can be picked up. :) Amazing game, level 28 with a Prophet build(Storm + dream) My girlfriend is a battle mage with a pet :D

i would also recommend downloading TQ Vault (http://www.titanquest.net/tq-forum/threads/32999-REL-TQVault-2.3.0.x) and the fan patch (can't find the link atm) both work with the steam version.

the first allows you to share loot between chars and keep everything you find (though not from within game, you still need to travel back to town to sell and sort out) the second fixes a number of other issues the game has.

there's a thread on this forum somewhere I'm sure, alternatively check out www.titanquest.net - active and very helpful community that will probably be able to help with your issue re place in the game.

have fun!

When you start Immortal Throne and import your character, the game starts at the very start again - I'd done 26 hours on the first one before finding out that you were supposed to start it using Immortal Throne - it's worth it, though, as it improves things quite a bit.

As nin9abadga suggested, use the TQ Vault outside of the game to store all your loot, otherwise you'll end up having to sell stuff that will come in handy later on to make up some space.

Hey i recently got this game too but not on steam i got the retail Gold version that has the expansion and all the patches on disc. I haven't had any inventory problems but when i find something thats awesome i quickly drop a portal stone and store it with the caravan man at the first town until i am the right level to use the item.

I would advise to if you want to go online do so with people your own level because i tried online when i was level 6 and was with people at lvl 46+, i just couldn't get in to attack anything because the other dudes quickly dispatched them. and you don't get a sense of the story because people seem to rush on ahead before you have time to talk to everyone.

Any fix to the main quest bugging (it can't be updated) when playing in multiplayer? Me and my brother were going to play through it but with this bug, meh. Have to reload the game for almost every main quest update

Hmm, not sure, I've never encountered that bug. Were you partied? Only times I have ever had issues with the quest not updating has been when we've forgotten to party up.

Yep grouped up, happened right at the start (helping his horse didn't update), so we relogged, got it to update then the next step is to talk to him (Timaeus or whatever) which would not update, so we'd have to relog again and again

Started playing this a few weeks ago, currently sat at 13hrs at the moment and the inventory is also doing my head in! Got some tasty looking green and purple gear but damn health potions are in the way!

So, having a look at the links I see there are two popular addons: TQVault and Defiler. I imagine I can run these programs no problem even though I'm already some way into the game and just pop my items into TQVault and run defiler to give me the unlimited potion stacking option. Correct?

Ok well I've installed both mods and works brilliantly :) No more potions taking up half my bloody inventory! And also being able to store gear for gear I've collected but not specific to my spec is really nice. Yes it's kind of cheating but it makes the game much more enjoyable for me and that's what counts!

Another issues I've got is slotted items. I read somewhere either one of the mods I've installed allows me to chop and change them but I can't find the option, maybe someone can help me out here?

Only quibble I've got with this game thus far is gold seems to be pretty irrelevant? I've hoarded a tonne of gold but haven't spent anything yet as gear you pick up tends to be even better than what the vendors can offer?
