Just ordered a new system to build.
Last one I did was a Core 2 Duo so has anything changed in terms of initial setup?

Anything I need to watch for or set in the BIOS to start with?
Not bothered about over locking at this stage just want to make sure it all goes smoothly.

I am using an SSD as boot drive. Do I have set anything special for this or just treat it like any other disk?

Thanks.
Andrew

I hadn't built a new PC since 2006 with an AMD Athlon XP skt 939

Nothing has really changed, it's all self explanatory these days, nothing fits in anything else so you'll be fine.

You might just want to check that the SSD is set to AHCI mode in the BIOS, before installing Windows.

Install windows with just the SSD plugged in, then plug in your other HDDs.

+1, Only just finally put away my old 939 X2 system in the attic :(

Only new thing is this UEFI BIOS thing as far as I know of, mind was blown at the thought of using a mouse in the BIOS :D.

Ah good, all sounds similar to last one then :)
I will be interested to see these new BIOS types though.

Re the motherboard update, I've ended up going with an ASrock Extreme 4. Seemed to be good and I particularly wanted one that was all black.

One thing I've just remembered from the old build. Are there any voltages I should specifically set rather than let the motherboard auto set them?

I wouldn't of thought you'd need to manually set any voltages unless overclocking? I've always done "Load Optimised Defaults" and then change boot options etc from there.
