the folder is likely "empty" because of permissions problems.
check permissions on the "my documents" folder.
right click, permissions, security, advanced.
tick box for "replace yada" and take ownership, close properties window.
open properties window again and select advanced again.
check "inherit perms from parent object" and also "replace yada yada"
select ok.
try access the folder again.
EDIT: when you say password protected... how? encryption (ms private folders or third party)?
EDIT2: It's safe to say yes - it's only overwriting ACLs (access control lists - or permissions)
EDIT3: Go through the steps I have detailed above - this is the best (only?) way to set permissions on multiple sub-objects.
