Ok, I've got a Dell 24'' that runs at 1920x1080 and an old Samsung that runs at 1280x1024, never used dual monitors before so I don't know if I need any special programs.

I have a 6800gt if it makes any difference. Cheers.

You just need to go to Display Properties and tick the box on monitor no. 2 that says 'Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor', you can change the resolution of each monitor independently.

Ok, I've managed to get dual monitors working, now I have another problem...

I want to use the 24'' as my main monitor, which I've apparently done in properties but everything seems to open on the 17''?

Is there a way for me to say, play games on the 24'' and use te 17'' for all my other applications?

should be a tickbox saying use this as my primary monitor in the same place. a nice program to use for dual screen taskbars too is ultramon makes working on the offscreen nice as it has its windows on another taskbar.

Just plug it in and follow the onscreen. I setup my first multi-monitor last week. It's really easy.

I've got it working using the nView display panel, I've set my 24'' as the primary display driver but I only have a taskbar on the 17''?

Is there anyway to have two taskbars or have the taskbar on the main display?

All that I really want to do is to be able to game on the 24'' and use other apps on the 2nd screen.

The taskbar should move to the primary display in Windows. for a taskbar across 2 screens you want Ultramon, can believe we're in Vista SP1 and they havent really made dual screen support any better than when XP was released.

Just downloaded ultramon, it's excellent.

I think problems are occuring because I've got display drivers for the secondary monitor but can't find any for my 2409 so it's assuming both monitors are the 17'' so even when I set the 2409 as the main display, it puts the taskbar on the 17''.

Might be worth swapping the connections on the gfx card over. I suspect one of the two outputs is considered the primary by default, and you may have them round the wrong way for what you're after at the moment
