God Windows 7 network sharing is driving me up the wall. I've read through a dozen tutorials and watched a few youtube videos but for some reason I still can't get this to work.

On the host PC I have a folder on my 2nd hard drive called 'Games' and I want to share it so I load steam backs onto my HTPC in the living room. So far I've created the file path, changed the security so any user can at least read it and changed the share permissions in the advanced sharing window and it's been added to homegroup.

I've also go to Advanced sharing settings in the control panel and turn on network discovery, turned off public folder sharing and turned off password protected sharing.

The the HTPC I can the host computer in the explorer window, I click on it and I can see the shared folder but Windows 7 says I don't have permission to access it. Any ideas?!?:confused:

I just add the username 'everyone' and give it read only access, on the permission tab

Check the network type on each pc is Home and not Public

I've tried adding a new user and my network type is home on both PC's and I still can't get it to work.

It's odd when I'm on either PC I can see the other machine listed under the network tab along with the shared folders but I just can't access them for some reason. I can't even get remote desktop to work.

I've even tried running it through Homegroup and I'm getting the same permission denied error.

You using any 3rd party firewall software? Try with windows firewall off. If this fixes it, re enable it and research the settings
