Hello, I have just built a new rig and want to over clock but I know nothing about this, Please help.
CPU i7 930......Motherboard Asus P6X58D-E
CPU Cooler Prolimatech Magahalems Rev.B.......16Gig OCZ DDR3 10666 Memory
60 GB. Crucial m4 SSD. 500 GB WD HDD. Samsung 1000 GB HDD
Sapphire HD 5800 Graphics card. 10 Noctua various sizes.
Thermaltake 775W Toughpower XT Power Supply.
Samsung Blue Ray & LG disc drives
Running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Just a little help to get me started, PLEASE

for your cpu, its best to use the bios for overclocking, its stored at the new clocks and a lot of things can be adjusted too.

for your graphics cards, use something like gputool, ati control catalyst, or rivatuner.
all very good...
then if your more advanced, you can flash the graphics card bios to the new overclocked clocks so that the card is 100% constantly overclocked permanently.

but always stress test between small incraments of overclocking for stability.
if fully stable, you are clear to overclock more if wanted.
i used prime 95 and intel burn test tools for stability testing

Thanks for response, will download apps you recommend but how do I start to OC? A small piece of advice will help, then I will be on and upwards. Thanks again for your advice. Cheers

its best to not touch your cpu clocks if you dont know what your doing.
as its all adjusted in the bios, if anything is set wrong, your pc will run like junk.
with the graphics cards, the easy way to overclock is to download gputool, load it up, and click "find max" on the core, let it do its job, it will overclock it 5mhz at a time and test stability, run it until a speed has been given at the bottom and has stayed that for a while. thats the stable clock.
then do it with the memory clock, then the same with shader clock...
make sure you let it run when you click "find max", as it will test stability for you. if you dont leave it to run then you will be given an unstable clock

hope this helped

Sorry to but in, but I download GPUTool, and i try and open it, and it doesn't open. It creates 2 files, ERRORLOG.TXT and CRASH.DMP

Any ideas?

hmm, very strange indeed.
Ok try using Rivatuner.
rivatuner has the overclocking tool and also got a temperature display too, so you can keep a close eye on your temps.
Try using rivatuner for overclocking and then using 3Dmark for testing for stability.

remember to only overclock a little bit at a time then test it. maybe 5 - 10mhz.
Personally i overclock 10 - 20mhz at a time firstly, but only because i am experienced.
