Hi all.

Three weeks ago I signed up to confused.com and got some quotes for my car insurance. A few days after getting the quotes I started to recieve junk mail in the post from AA Car insurance... I have never been onto their website and never got a quote from AA directly, so I am quite annoyed.
I sent a complaint to AA through the emails asking them to remove my details and to stop sending me junk mail and I got the following response;

Dear Mr *****,

Thank you for your email.

Your email has been logged against the above Service Request Number.

I have forwarded your information on to our Marketing Department for the details you have provided to be removed from our mailing list. Please allow up to 3 months for the mailings to cease completely as some information will have been prepared in advance.

Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Since then I have recieved two further junk mail posts with exactly the same letters saying I can save £200 with them, etc, etc.

Surely I don't have to wait 3 months for them to stop this crap?
Also, in the email they just said they would remove me from their mailing list - they didn't actually say they would completely erase my details from their database.

Isn't there a law that states they have to remove my details if I request them to?

Any help would be appreciated!

Even if you register the Mail Preference Service http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/ it will take up to about 4 months for you to be removed from mailing lists. I'm afraid that you just have to wait for it to happen but do register with the MPS and the TPS.

Thanks, I just registered with the MPS.

But if I wanted a quote I would have asked for one.

Exactly.

At the moment I am recieving the same bloody letter from AA every single week.

<wolf> 1. Save every Free Credit Card Offer you get, Put it in pile A
<wolf> 2. Save every Free Coupon You get, put that in pile B
<wolf> 3. Now open the credit card mail from pile A and find the Business
       Reply Mail Envelope.
<wolf> 4. Take the coupons from pile B and stuff them in the envelope you hold
       in your hand.
<wolf> 5. Drop the stuffed to the brim envelopes in your mail and walk away
       whistling.
<wolf> I have now received two phone calls from the credit card companies
telling me that they received a stuffed envelope with coupons rather
then my application. They informed me that it they are not pleased that
they footed the bill for the crap I sent them. I reply with "It says
Business Reply Mail" I'm suggesting coupons to you to ensure that your
business is more successful. They promptly hang up on me.
<wolf> Now, I did this for about a month before it got boring, so I got an
added idea! I added exactly 33 cents worth of pennies to the envelope
so they paid EXTRA due to the weight. I got a call informing me about
the money, I said it was a mistake and I demanded my change back. After
yelling at the clerk and then to the supervisor they agreed to my
demands and cut me a check for the money. I hold in my hand at this
very moment a check from GTE Visa for exactly 33 cents.

this is how confused.com makes money did you actually think they sell cheap car insurance :p

It usually says on the envelope who stuff is from, it is really so much effort to just bin it instead of opening it. It makes you look cool if you get a lot of mail.
