I am not sure if this is the best place for the query, but here goes.

Every time I research something to buy with Google, my wife's Facebook page immediately gets bombarded with adverts for the same product. Although I have nothing to hide, this makes it extremely difficult to buy presents for her or organise a surprise break away. I have checked my Google account and there are no linked accounts or Facebook pages and I do not use Facebook. I have also looked at her Facebook settings which is a minefield! I am not sure if we are being linked through the IP address or Wifi, so can anyone help me fix this?

A mix of trackers, IP, location, and various other things that Meta collects to try see what users are browsing outside of Facebook. You can use something like uBlock Origin (a browser extension) which can block most of these, added bonus they also remove ads as well.

It's probably IP address mostly, but it sounds like you're not browsing incognito? At some point I developed the habit of going incognito for all Google searches and shopping. Just keeps my history a bit cleaner so I'm able to find interesting/work related stuff easier.

Unclear from your post but is this on separate devices, it's not you and your wife using the same browser in the same Windows account is it?

We have totally separate devices. My wife never uses the desktop with Windows 11. She uses her Kindle tablet or Android phone. I use the desktop, my Android tablet, or my Android phone. We have separate Google accounts. Regardless which device I use she gets bombarded with ads on Facebook.

It's tricky. Once you are down the rabbit hole, it's difficult to climb back out.

I would try getting a free Proton account and using that. Just remember to clear all your cookies before and after searching for presents!

The biggest problem may be when you buy something. These platforms favourite stupidity is to bombard you with adverts for something you just bought.

Not sure there is much you can do short of entirely private/separate browser and maybe VPN - if my parents for example search for gardening stuff I will get ads on Facebook related to it despite being on different internet connections and devices.
