How do i stop people linking to images?

Hi people,
Im doing a website for someone and people keep linking to his images onto forums etc, and it is caining his bandwidth.

How can I stop people from linking to his images?

and the first link from google brings up a tutorial explaining how and why to do it

I usually embarass them by replacing the image with something like

"I steal others bandwidth" "I am a moron who hotlinks images"

Soon stops them.
