So, I'm having wierd computer issues in general just now, but I've noticed the processor seems to be dropping to 1.2Ghz (it's an E2180 at stock 2Ghz) even when it should be under heavy load in Ableton Live (recording software). Since the software has been playing up, I want to figure out what's wrong with it. I think it's memor problem I'm having, but it doesn't seem right that the processor should drop its speed while running 27 virtual instruments at once, plus audio tracks on top of that. I've had a look in the BIOS, and I can't for the life of me find the option. The board is a Gigabyte P35-DS3P.

Also, OCCT is reporting idle temps of near 50 degrees...this can't be right? The BIOS says idle is just under 30, and even immediately after booting into Windows, OCCT says it's 50 or over. If anyone can recommend other programs that monitor temperature, I'd like to test out some other things to find out if there's an error or if it really is idling at such high temperatures. :o

Thanks in advance

The option should be something like EIST something or other in the BIOS for speedstep. If it's enabled, then disable it.

Try using coretemp to measure the temperature. I find it's the most accurate one for me.

Alright, I'll look up those options later on, the PC is in the middle of something now, thanks. Coretemp measures my temperatures at roughly 40 degrees with about 50% load on each core, OCCT says 56 apiece. I'll check it again later when its idle, or just been turned on, and see what Coretemp says. Here's hoping that's the accurate one of the two. :)
