How do i tell both cores are working, etc?

Hello.

Recently upgraded to an X2 4800+ on 939 Skt....

Is there something i can check within the O/S or D/L to make sure both cores are working properly, etc?

Go to the performance tab of task manager and you should see 2 graphs displaying CPU Usage history. Also look at device manager and where it says computer, your CPU should be listed as "ACPI Multiprocessor PC".
 
Task Manager should show two graphs for the two cores. Also Device Manager will list two processors for a dual-core.
 
They have separate L2 cache on AMD cores.
While Intel have shared which means if a programme changes cores, it doesn't have to change the cache which makes it lag on an AMD system.
