How do I tell if my system is overclocked?

I've just looked in my system info and I cannot see if my machine has been overclocked. Am I supposed to see it here? If not, where can I find if it has been overclocked or not?

When you run CPU-Z you may see the speed fluctuating, don't worry this will be speedstep or AMD Cool & Quiet.

They drop the cpu speed when idle.

Look for core speed (MHz) in the bottom-left corner

What CPU do you have?
What did you overclock it to?

If it is running much lower than it should be (around 800 MHz), then run some sort of stress test such as prime 95 to see what it runs out at when being used.

The low value is with Cool + Quiet or speedstep enabled as mentioned before.

ok I've got a Gigabyte EX58-UD5 mobo with core i7 920 DO running at a supposed 4Ghz .... it was factor made bu OCUK ... runs like a dream but was just curious that's all. Ok the core speed is 1619.3 Mhz the multiplier is x12.0 the bus speed is 134.9 Mhz and the QPI link is 2428.8 Mhz ...... what do you make of that?

Yep the whole system was made by OCUK as an overclocked bundle .... I'll download those programs and see if anything changes. I'm a bit worried as I've read a few reports of overclocked systems that turn out to be NOT overclocked. That was why I went for the pre overclocked system to start with ... it's not something I do so I left it to the pros ....

running prime 95 with a blend of tests .. at the moment the core speed has shot up to 2833 Mhz, multiplier 21, bus speed at 134.9 and qpi link is 2428.9 ... what sort of stress test should I apply?

Right, your processor has reverted to stock settings.

If you do not know how to apply a profile in the BIOS, give OCUK a ring tomorrow and they'll be more than happy to guide you through it.

ok will do ... huh and I have been very impressed with the performance to date ... I mean I've run every labour intensive game and it runs very well at maximum settings ... so I'm going to get an even bigger boost in performance ... I like that ... :D
thanks for the help ;)

If you go into your BIOS, you will have the option to load OCUK bios profile. Once you load this profile, save and exit the bios and your system will then be running the OCUK overclocked profile.

ok I've just got off the phone to OCUK help (nice chap) and they talked me through loading the OCUK profile in the bios. Unfortunately it hasn't done anything. So they are sending me out the new bios for me to install. After getting off the phone I noticed that the desktop gadget for cpu performance is at 100% ?? I checked to make sure that prime95 and cpuz were not still running (they weren't). I brought up task manager and yep the cpu is maxed out at 100% ?? Has the OCUK bios done something after all? Is it dangerous to leave it at 100% ?? What do I do from here if anything?
