As title guys it says nothing in the documentation :( some people say it turns off by itself others..take batteries out wtf lol..surely MS enabled it to be turned off?

Jotun is right, but it will eventually turn off by itself with no use, and taking the batterys out will also work. I'm pretty sure it does say in the instruction leaflet though.

If your within a GFWL game you can hold down the Guide button to get an onscreen power-off prompt otherwise you need to wait 10 mins for it to turn off itself or pull the batteries out.

Ye the main way is to remove the batteries. Probably uses next to no power in the ten mins it takes to power off automatically but im in the habit of doing it anyway.

I always just quickly press the battery release button, pop it out by a couple of mm at most, then clip it straight back in. You don't need to remove the battery very much at all.

If you hold down the 'Xbox button' in the centre of the controller, you will have a box pop-up allowing you to choose to either "turn off console", "turn off controller" or "cancel" :)

As said above, they will automatically turn off after a short while anyway, but this method only takes a moment :)

Hmm. I never get the option to turn it off from holding the button on Vista x64. Leaving it for a few minutes turns it off though.

That turn off option ONLY works within a Games For Windows Live game in the menus not outside of the game interface.
