I have just got a laptop with vista on and when i start it up i get these pop up every time. Once i click run on all of them it continues to load things like the sidebar. I have tried unticking 'Always ask before opening this file' but it doesnt seem to do anything.

Here are the 3 windows..

ProcessLibrary sais:
igfxtray.exe is a process which allows you to access the Intel Graphics configuration and diagnostic application for the Intel 810 series graphics chipset. This program is a non-essential system process, and is installed for ease of use via the desktop tray.

hkcmd.exe is installed alongside Intel multimedia devices and allows configuration and diagnostic options for these devices. This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.

igfxpers.exe is a process installed alongside NVidia graphics cards and provides additional configuration options for these devices. This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.

Thanks for any help, i dont really know much about Vista.

Type in a search for 'system configuration'.

Check to see if they appear in the startup tab.

Uncheck the item to disable it.

If it's windows defender that's picking up on the items then there 'should' be a way of allowing them to run all the time.

Is that the way its done? Just to remove them from running on startup.

The last 2 seems to be a little more important. It sais not to remove them unless its causing a problem. Surely theres a better way of dealing with it rather than just removing them ?

Start > Run > regedit

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
or
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
