I literally have no clue how to use photoshop for image manipulation. If I imported a photo, I wouldn't know where to start.

If you don't have Photoshop, download the GIMP http://www.gimp.org/ and then start buzzing through some tutorials. http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/

That should get you started. In no time you'll be manipulating everything you see.
