How do Orange Upgrades work?

Hi all,

Stupid 18 month contracts - I'm 9 months in and I fancy a new phone :(

Guy in CPW suggested that the Upgrade Fee goes down by £50 every month. Last month, I asked in the Orange shop about my upgrade fee and it was £200. I did the same today and now its £150.

Is this the case? Does this, therefore, mean that by October I'll be able to upgrade for £50 and if I waited until November, for free, even though I'm still in contract?

My bills are about £45 a month and the Orange shop told me I am a 'band 3 customer'.

Cheers.

Yes, if you waited until November you wouldn't be charged an "upgrade fee" which means you will still be charged full price for the handset you upgrade to, you will also not get any good retention offers like more minutes or line rental discounts, you will simply stay on the same talk plan and pay full RRP price for the handset you are wanting to upgrade to.

What handset do you have and what handsets do you like/want?

IIRC, the 'upgrade fee' for those wanting a new phone outside of the specified time that you are eligible to do so for free (in your case from the 15th month of your contract), is a fee on top of the cost of the handset. I.e. say you wanted a phone that would cost you £50 for your tarriff, if you wanted that now, you'd have to pay that plus the upgrade fee. When you get to month 15 you will be able to have that phone for £50 (assuming the price stays the same). Having said that, once you get to month 15 you could probably haggle to get any phone for free :)

Thats good. Is it usual for upgrades to be 'free' in Month 12 of an 18 month contract?

I currently have a Nokia N73. I am considering something like a Nokia N95.
