How do people handle their drink?

I'm a CAMRA member, that fizzy yellow water they call "beer" and sell in most pubs is just garbage and full of crap, just about the only beer on pump at most pubs that I can drink is usually Guinness and even that's not amazing.

But then I don't go out and drink like most folk do to get wasted and end up a mess, for me booze is a treat to be savoured not something to poor down like drain cleaner.

Get your liver checked I've known a few guys like that fatty liver or auto immune cirrhosis of the liver.

Kidneys might also be involved.

Different alcoholic drinks have profoundly different effects on me on a night out.

The only one that makes me 'dance happy' is vodka. The rest just make me sleepy. God know's why.

Scientifically that's ********. It's a placebo effect, the same as the effect that makes sober people feel drunk when surrounded by drunk people.

Personally I don't drink much and getting up and dancing is more how others around me are feeling than what I'm drinking. If everyone is boring then I won't but if it's a good club/evening and everyone is happy (usually means they have to be drunk *shrug*) then I probably will.

I think it's down to rate of inebriation. Drinking 5 pints of beer has negative effects from bloating compared to drinking two double vodka and cokes.

Scientifically, thats ********. You used the word 'scientifically' without referencing any supporting evidence, and disputed his anecdotal evidence which is scientifically true from his perspective.

All in all, yours was a very unsciency post. Please dont use the word science unscientifically. It offends Einstein. Thats why his hair is always so crazy in the pictures. Because of you. *Shakes angry fist*

Plain and simple. Practice.

We were all the same @ 18. Later on in life when you start drinking before 12pm ;), you become a little immune to it. Pints, shots, pretty much anything.
When I was young four pints would wreck me, put on a little more weight and conditioned the liver and now 4 pints is just for starters. Starts getting toilet messy around 8 or 9 and a few shots.

Like many will say, nothing to be proud of.

Most people I know have drink to have fun, and have a whale of a time, but for me it does not seem to work.
You got in in the right mood before you start drinking...;)

I find
If your happy then drinking makes you even more happy
If your sad then drinking makes you even more sad
If your angry or stress then drinking makes you even more angry or stress

And if your an idiot then drinking makes you become a much bigger idiot...:D

He's 25 though, not 18. And my experiences differ somewhat in that until my mid-20s I very rarely got hangovers, I'd just wake up early with a bit of a headache. I actually thought they were a bit of a myth / people being soft until I started getting them.

Hangovers REALLY begin to hit in the late 20s. I was always proud of drinking myself into oblivion and never waking up with one.

Until the morning when I was 28 and I woke up in hell. Hasn't stopped since.

I just stick to lager until im too bloated then switch to spiced rum and coke, dont do silly shots as a general rule but the odd jager does go down nicely now and again.
I tend to stop drinking when i need to close one eye to focus on people about a foot away from my face.
Always hammer water when i get in with a pint of it next to the bed, I also always open a can of coke and leave it to go flat over night and neck it as soon as i wake up, works a charm.
I only really get hangovers if I stay in with my lady because that means red wine and as much as i love it, it ruins my life.

As I've got a bit older I'm much worse at drinking. I seem to stay drunk for a hell of a long time and then in the when I finally sober up at like, 1pm, I feel like death for about 3 hours. I never used to be like this :(

Beers have a lot of sugar in them compared to other alcoholic drinks, no? So it's not a surprise that beers could be making him feel smashed compared to other drinks if that's how his body responds to a certain amount of sugar.

It could simply be the sugar that results in him feeling tired at bloated, an excess of sugar can do that.

I don't drink, and I've never been drunk or had a hang over. I've never understood the appeal.

Exact opposite for me, from late teens to late 20s I was a wreck the next day, sick, headaches the whole lot.

Now I don't even notice it next day, can't even remember my last hangover. I'm convinced it's down to the quality of your drinks, drink **** and feel like ****.

Over the years I have learnt what works for me.

I don't like beers much. Don't drink them often. Just makes me tired and lethargic and slur my speech.

Wine is my go to if I want to get a little tipsy with a small amount of volume. (I.e not get smashed or consume large amounts of liquid)

However if I’m going out, my routine is a £7.50 bottle of vodka a can of red bull and I am smashed for the next 6 hours. But, I am UP, energetic and fully in control of my faculties.

Plus it means I minimise my spend at the bar for the evening. 1-2 beers for the whole evening. MAYBE a shot of sambuca half way through the night if I want a pick up.

I can control my self on vodka. You would probably not realized just how smashed I was.

This works for me.

As for hangovers. Well yes, I usually am hung over the next day. It doesnt help getting in at 6am however. I will try to drink a bottle of water before bed, but I doubt this works.
