I have a problem picking up phone numbers unless they are said in the CORRECT way which is obviously MY WAY.

6 figure numbers have to be said : 1.2.3...4.5.6 and not 1.2...3.4...5.6

Mobile numbers have to be said : 0.7.8.7.0...1.2.3...4.5.6 and not like my wife said this morning 0.7.8.7...0.1.2...3.4.5.6

So how many of you say it the CORRECT way?

(of course this a debate in the office I have to win)

this is how numbers are correct

020 7558 9685 landline
07875 968995 mobile

ps. i just made those numbers up. dont call them or anything

Normal numbers: 1.2.3... 4.5.6

Mobiles: 0.7.8.8...1.2.3...4.5.6.7

The mobile one is because that's how I say my number...

Land line - (1234)... 123... 123...

Mobile - (12345)... 123... 123

Boils my **** when people say it in sets of just two numbers at a time

hmm depends on the number, for example my mobile number

07705522989 (not my actual mobile number but the same groupings of numbers)
I say 0 double 7 0.. double 5 double 2 989

Both correct ways of saying numbers, apart from Paul's mobile - 6 numbers is too much for most people. I've no trouble remembering a full 11 digits til I can write them down somewhere half an hour later, but if I rattle off 6 numbers in quick succession, poeple ask me to repeat myself. However, the landline's correct for the big cities - I used to live in Soton, and home numbers were given in 2 groups of 4, assuming the city code 023. I can't understand why people break mobile numbers up into 4/3/4.

I say 0 double 7 0.. double 5 double 2 989

Props for having the stones to post your mobile number on an internet forum. I'd definitely say that "oh seven seven oh five, five two two, nine eight nine" - mentioning when numbers are repeated is also pretty useless, since it wastes syllables in most cases and it's really obvious immediately afterward by virtue of their being repeated.

Incidentally, if you had a triplicate in there, would you say 'triple' or 'treble'?

Landline 0207 123 4567
Mobile 0771 123 4567

The format is not important, it’s how clearly you say it that counts.

I say my mobile as 078 11 22 1257

Some people don't like it but it makes sense to me because the numbers in the '11' position are the same and so are the ones in the '22' position.

Not my actual number as I said :p

Maybe, Personally I think it's easier to 'digest' the number when the doubles are mentioned, and I'm not going to lose any sleep over the 4 milliseconds longer it takes to say an extra couple of syllables.

Incidentally, if you had a triplicate i tehre, would you say 'triple' or 'treble'?
Probably the first one
