i have 2 x 120Gb evo in raid (onboard) - i would like to secure erase both so that i can install win8 on the system

can any guide me on how to do this without sticking each ssd in a separate machine and doing it cos im sure last time i had to use a USB stick

thanks

You dont need to put Magician on the USB pen, you install Magician in Windows, then run it , choose Secure Erase on the left, then it lets you build the bootable USB pen right from there, takes 2 mins

this does not work when drives are raid;d

it only picks up the ssd in single install and not raid

so this would mean removing one, installing windows, run magician, secure erase - then repeat with second drive

Its far easier to secure erase them by sticking them in another machine (and I'd recommend updating them with the latest firmware + performance restoration then doing a secure ease if they are 840 EVOs as this will save hassle down the line) they will probably enter a locked state and require temporarily removing the power connection.

Just do a fresh format and re-install of windows during the installation.

Secure erase won't add any benefit and means breaking the raid configuration & re-creating it and secure wiping both after installing windows twice.

Assuming its the 840 EVO even after the performance restoration tool I was getting ECC errors on heavily used blocks until I did a secure erase so I'd highly recommend it with those drives personally as it seems the only way to fully restore the cells to proper state.

thanks

I could disable raid, format, reinstall windows on one drive, this will allow me to create the secure erase usb stick to do the secure erase with on both (without having to install windows twice yes?) - then use the USB to secure erase the 2nd EVO then RAID them together

i definitley recall using a USB stick at some point

SAMSUNG HAVE REPLIED SAYING THERE IS A USB METHOD WHERE YOU UN-RAID THEM THEN DO THEM 1 BY 1

WAITING FOR REPLY TO SAY WHERE DOWNLOAD IS

I KNOW YOU CAN AS I DONE IT TO MY 840
