- Cut your selected song to a 40 second clip (or less) using Quicktime, Garageband, or any audio editor of your choice
- Save as xxx.mp3
- Import xxx.mp3 in to iTunes
- Change your iTunes preferences so that your "import" settings are now set to AAC
- Find and right-click the xxx.mp3 you just added; choose "Convert selection to AAC"
- Now go open Finder and navigate to the AAC file you just made (it will be called xxx.m4a)
- Rename file from xxx.m4a to xxx.m4r
- lick confirm when a dialog box pops up warning about changing file extensions
- Drag the .m4r file out of the iTunes folder and on to the desktop
- Double click the file on the desktop and BOOM, a new ringtone appears in iTunes. Sync iPhone to add it.
