How do you change registered users info (XP)?

Guys,

I know it's a bit trivial (and I used to remember how you did it myself...), but can you remind me about how you go about changing the registered users info in xp? My mate's taking a new lappy (with family os) back to uni with him and he want to get rid of the 'new user' or whatever that comes up when you right-click on my computer / properties.

I think he said there's a few old support telephone numbers there as well which are annoying him

I seem to remember editing a text file or something

there are 2 things you need to do. to change the registered user you'll need to edit the registry. start, run, regedit. browse to

HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion

edit the values of "RegisteredOwner" and "RegisteredOrganistion" in the right hand pane.

the support numbers will be stored in a text file-

\windows\system32\oeminfo.ini

just delete the whole file. also, if there is a file called oemlogo.bmp, delete that as well.

If you dont like the registry http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm - number 7 tweak in the right hand pane.

The oeminfo.ini and oemlogo.bmp will still have to be deleted manually.
