How do you count multi card slots apart?

Hi,

I am going into 2 way crossfire for the first time and i need to get a fitting to go between the cards.

So how exactly do you count what length crossfire bridge or connector needs to be?

im using 2 single slot watercooled 7970s. The first is in the top 16x slot, there are then 2 1x slots and no black areas, then the second card in the second x16 slot. the motherboard is msi z77 mpower FYI.

is that 3 slot spacing?
 
Measure the distance between the crossfire connectors on the top of your cards and then order a crossfire bridge for that measurement..
