How do you count to 10?

I was talking to a Chinese friend today and he said 8 whilst holding up two fingers. This confused me somewhat, but it turns out that the Chinese count on their fingers rather differently than we do.

You could use a Base 2 system if counting on your fingers. I think if I was taught other ways of counting earlier it would have helped me so much.

Edit: Actually I think I have got that wrong.. I can't remember what way it was now. Eitherway its supposed to be more efficient than 1 - 10 with fingers.

I count in binary.

0 - no fingers
1 - little finger
2 - ring finger
3 - little + ring finger
4 - middle finger
5 - middle + little finger
6 - middle finger + ring finger
etc.

It's so much more efficient as I can count to 31 on one hand. If I use 2 hands I get to 1023!
