How do you count to 10?

You could use a Base 2 system if counting on your fingers. I think if I was taught other ways of counting earlier it would have helped me so much.

Have you even tried counting base2 on your hands? Unless you're a concert pianist with amazing finger independence, you're going to struggle as soon as you hit 8, assuming the RH thumb is 1.

I haven't but in this video the guy seems to manage it ok.

I was talking to a Chinese friend today and he said 8 whilst holding up two fingers. This confused me somewhat, but it turns out that the Chinese count on their fingers rather differently than we do.

In a very similar fashion to the Chinese, it must be an Asian thing I guess, but if you look at the palm of your hand the fingers have 3 sections and the thumb including the palm counts as 3 also.

It's hard to describe but I'm sure some sad git has made a YT video describing how to count that way lol

I count finger notches; use your thumb to count between the folds on your fingers. Three notches on each of your four fingers, that's twelve on one hand. There are techniques that let you count further but I find that's plenty.
