How do you deal with it?

I learnt to drink a couple pints of water when I get home. That way I don't get a hang over in the morning. When I wake up I drink a few more pints of water as well.

That's all a hang over is really... dehydration.

For Truth.

I used to down a few pints of water before bed... but nowadays if i'm totally wasted when I get in, I don't bother because I did something bad last time :(

I must have drank 2/3 pints of water and woke up shortly after going to bed, still wasted but bursting for a pee. I thought it'd be acceptable to pee in my sock draw :\... was proper annoyed in the morning anyway.

irn-bru (not diet)

working for scots for years now.

Yep, works a treat, particularly with crisps and chocolate to be eaten alongside it because you are then replacing the lost salts and sugars that you have sweated/urinated out. For preference - salt and vinegar Squares along with a Picnic bar but pretty much anything will do the same job. A pint or two of water before going to bed is also a good idea but the Irn Bru remedy can cure anything regardless.

This is has some info:

Especially this bit:
HAIR OF THE DOG

Why you need it
In folk medicine, the antidote to a canine bite was the burned hair of the dog that bit you. The myth that like cures like is still prevalent among some of today's drinkers - and they may be on to something. Ernest Hemingway is rumoured to have favoured a concoction of beer and tomato juice the next morning.

How it works
Alcohol is broken down by the body into methanol, which in turn forms formic acid - a cause of some of the main problems associated with hangovers. By introducing fresh alcohol to the mix, you can trick the body into dealing with the new problem and slow down the process of metabolising the old stuff.

But does it work?
If you can keep it down, a small amount of alcohol may temporarily relieve the worst of the symptoms. However, you are really only delaying the inevitable - you can't keep drinking forever.
Why not? :D

hi there,

I'm usually quite good with hangovers. i got into the habit when i was at uni, to drink a load of water before going to bed, and if it is still bad in the morning, normally get up really early, have more water, soma paracetemol, and then try and sleep it off again.

Only ever had a few stonking ones, after being literally pareletic.

I have never had a hangover myself, despite abusing alcohol stupidly in my youth. I'd always wake up the next afternoon feeling fine, even when I'd been falling-over drunk.

I've looked into it, though, because people have asked me how to treat or avoid them and I didn't know.

It isn't just dehydration, though that's the worst of it. Water will make you feel a fair bit better if you drink it when you are hungover and it will reduce the hangover a lot if you drink it while you're drinking the alcohol or before you go to sleep. Rehydrating drinks are better. Cycling supplies are a good place for those, as dehydration is a big problem for racing cyclists.

Well we all do it, go out one night, have a few too many drinks, wake up the next day with a cracking hangover!

Everyone has their own things that perk them up the next day e.g big greasy fry up, water, toast, going for a jog....

So, whats yours? Personally i have a craving for coke, seems to wake me up though :)
Well basically I rarely drink, even socially.

It's a win-win situation, no hangovers and no damage to my liver.

I dont have any other option apart from to deal with it, I have an 11 month old daughter who wont let you feel sorry for yourself and sleep all day.

I find by getting up and going through the motions, brush teeth, drink coffee, change nappie (the winning combination) by the time you've done all that your half way to feeling human again.

I get the worst hang overs _ever_ . I have a real problem with them, and they absolutly kill my body for a good day.

I try and drink water when i come in if im sober enough, but other than that i just end up passing out and waking up in the morning to go to work which never helps !

Beans on Toast are always a good cure though.

Drink as much water as possible before you go to bed, leave a big glass by your bed for if you wake up in the night.

In the morning drink Lucozade, Powerade, Red Bull or similar followed by some food. Bananas are good as are beans on toast or a fry up. Keep drinking lots during the morning to make sure you're fully rehydrated.

Most important part is drinking as much water as you can before you go to sleep though.
