How do you find out the number of hits a website gets?

Afternoon all,

I do pretty basic admin on a site for a small company which employs me. Is there any way to find out how many hits the home address gets a day? I have looked in the admin tools but there isn't anything in the options that tells me.

Where is it hosted? They might provide stats from cPanel or such.

Or use something like http://statcounter.com

If it's C-Panel then it's very easy to find

Try http://domain.com/stats some hosts set that up by default.

You have to gather your own stats, but most web hosts will be doing for you anyways. If this is not happening, then you could struggle to build some from access logs, but that would probably be more trouble than it's worth.

If you're wanting to setup stats for the future, most people will recommend google analytics I believe.

As others have said, sign up for Google Analytics and stick the javascript on the home page.
