I thought you just had to go to the windows icon and search google style, but annoyingly this keeps coming up with search results online instead. For example I cannot get to disk management this way, nor can I find "insurgent" a game which I installed and successfully played until I deleted the desk top short cut. I cannot even find the game by searching in the folders in explorer! Any ideas?

I press the start button on keyboard(or click the button) and start typing and it all appears.

So start, type disk, first option is create and format hard disk partitions. Same with any games I have installed.

As below.

Or try windows key + X(or right click windows icon in 8.1) and click disk management

I wasn't aware of either S or Q :D. Much nicer than the fullscreen start menu for opening things quickly, cheers :).

I get search results back when I've misspelt what I'm looking for. Are you on 8 or 8.1?

What happens if you type in diskmgmnt.msc in the search bar? That's disk management's real name and should work.

What's wrong with right clicking bottom left corner(Win+X menu) which brings up this

,
has disk management and search on there, works both on Metro Start and old desktop.

Windows key + R and enter: %programdata%\microsoft\windows\start menu\programs or %appdata%\microsoft\windows\start menu\programs

No doubt it has installed an entry in there somewhere, at some point I might do a little example of how to get the start menu back without using 3rd party applications as apparently it was too hard for MS despite all the components still being there.
