So just installed Windows 8.1. I don't like having pictures as a backdrop, so just tend to have a "coloured theme".

I can't seem to find a list of such themes in Windows 8.1? Instead they're all picture based?

How can I just choose a simple coloured theme like Vista or Windows 7 offers?

Go to change your desktop background and select 'Solid Colors' as the picture location. Selecting a colour will also change the appearance of any UI elements if your colour mode is set to automatic.

I noticed that, but it seemed to be just the background rather than the entire colour theme/scheme?

I'd prefer just to select a colour theme that's been thought through. I don't want to have to go through setting numerous colours (eg: window bars etc).

Or am I missing something?

You should just be able to set a specific colour by going into the 'Color' section under personalization. From there you can change a few values, which is then reflected throughout the interface.

Hmmmm....

On Vista I simply selected a preset colour scheme (I believe) and done!

Why the step backwards?
