Some retro restorers do it, depends what is giving it the smell but a bit of isopropyl may do the trick and relatively safe.

Don't add lemon juice, it's acidic and will attack the PCB.

I know a CRT TV restorer who washes his PCBs in WD-40 followed by soapy water
