I've got a Rift headset but I want to play Dirt Rally in non-VR (as it my right I believe!) but I simply can't get the ******* thing to load without it booting Oculus in the background and subsequently reverting to the default resolution!

I don't want to uninstall Oculus because if I do I've then got to go through the annoying setup process every time - all I want is to be able to play games that I've played in VR without these kind of issues!

Is there any way to stop Oculus from booting up? (even when the headset itself is NOT plugged in!!!)

If only it were that simple!

I've unplugged the headset and rebooted the PC but Oculus still insists on starting up every time I try and play the game and it constantly defaults to the basic resolution!?!?!

Can you rename the folder or something?

In my Steam library when I dabbled with VR I have the few VR games at the bottom and then my normal list. Take for instance Elite Dangerous it appears under my VR list at the bottom and also in Games (non vr) list at the top. Is it not just a matter of running the game using the non VR entry at the top. Sounds like you are using the shortcut from the VR section ?

Thanks for the help guys - in the end I've stopped the "OVRService" in my services list and it's done the trick!

Just need 2 bat files with: "net start ovrservice" and "net stop ovrservice" then set the service to manual.

Yup.....no idea what any of this means I'm afraid! :p

Just use oculus tray tool to stop the service.

I tried this but if I start the game and then alt-tab back to the desktop to close it down, the game crashes about 20 seconds after I go back in!

Either way stopping the Oculus service has done what I wanted!

A bat file is a script, if you create a notepad document with "net start ovrservice" and save it as "Start VR Mode.bat" on your desktop, when you click it, it will open command prompt and start the service very quickly.

It will save you having to go to the services menu every time :)

There mght be some inaccuracies in what I've said as I'm primarily a Mac user these days :p

Hi
i know you are sorted but, do you have the game on oculus store or steam?
if oculus store you should be able to RMB on the game image in the desktop oculus library and choose to launch into desktop mode (or what ever it is they call none vr )

Yea that's right, then make a second bat file to stop it. It has to be run as an admin.

Or you can make a macro if you have a keyboard with programmable keys.

Weird, I checked and I have both sensors plugged in but the headset unplugged, if I want to vr I just plug the headset in and oculus client loads
