How do you get support with Dell monitors?

Hi

Younger brother is having issues with a dell P2210 monitor (not bought from OCUK boo hiss:p), basically the inverter or tube for the top left of the screen is intermittently faulty (flashing like a 70's disco*).

It's meant to have a 3 year warranty but there is no service tag (a google suggests that is common for monitors under 24"), and DELL are apparently all the help of an icecube in a supernova, basically saying he needs the original order number that the retailer he bought it from had from Dell, as apparently the serial number, model number and his receipt from the retailer are not enough.

I'm pretty much stuck, I'm guessing there has to be a way for end buyers to get service from Dell for the monitors, but I'm stuffed if I know how (by comparison Sony and other monitor makers have excellent support often just needing the serial number - I remember arranging a Sony RMA in all of 5 minutes, the same with a low budget monitor).

I think my brother has spent over an hour on the phone to dell (via the number on their site), getting transferred hither and thither.

Any suggestions?

Probably similar to when I had a problem with a Clearance line Dell, they wouldnt have anything to do with me, said I had to return it to the supplier for warranty support, said the service tag wasn't registered on their system. Strange really almost the exact opposite response I have had from items purchased directly from them.

He kept trying, and I found a couple of numbers on here, 0844 338 1000 and 0844 444 4699 one of which got him through to a very helpful agent who made an arrangement for a replacement to arrive Monday, and his old one to be picked up within a week.

It's almost like the number listed on the Dell site goes to a completely different company.

My old 2410 a while back started randomly not displaying anything. I called Dell and they said I would have to deal with the supplier and refused to help as it was not purchased direct from them. I rung again on the same number and spoke to a different person who arranged a next day swap without any problems or questions other than asking for the serial.
