Hey,

How do you fellow mac user's backup your macs? I use rsync to a local server for documents and files etc but would like a full backup system.

In Linux I just create a large tar file of pretty much everything in root. Would the same work for os x?

Cheers,

Jon

Sticky would only need one(2?) word: SuperDuper!

It's great, I can even boot from my backups. If you register then you can use the smart backup which makes every so much quicker.

+1 for SuperDuper! I have the full version - worth every penny for the incremental 'smart' backups - makes the process so quick and easy.

I also periodically (monthly at most) backup important stuff such as photos to DVD

my backup procedure is very complicated.
i use a powerbook during the week and an imac over the weekend.
when i am back home i backup the powerbook using IBACKUP.
then i use IMSAFE to sync the two computers, syncing ical, itunes, documents, mail, safari, camino.
so far so good.

how can you backup windows xp installation on macbook ?

Just tried using Acronis and says it doesn't support the disk drive obv as its got OSX on it as well, will Norton Ghost work or do i need another program?

I doubt highly that any windows application will backup your OS X volume as well. You will need to make seperate backups. One with Acronis backing up Windows NTFS volume then one with Superduper for OS X.

don't backup most of the stuff on my iBook part from video files, word documents etc

my dad backs up his iMac using the software that comes with his external Seagate drive EMC Retrospect

.Mac for emails and address book etc.

Project files and photos I burn onto DVD when I remember.

iTunes purchases I always burn onto CD immediately. :)
