Hi guys,

Really simple question and the answer might just be what I was expecting, but is there a quick easy way of cropping say a standard 3504x2336 image (4:3ish) into say, 1280x800(16:10), without stretching the image? Obviously losing some from top and bottom.

Currently, the only way I can do is by manually cropping the image in photoshop, checking the res and then keep doing it in small amounts until I get down to the right res.

Surely there are more effective ways of doing this?

Not to mention that if you have a lot of photos to do you can create a batch function that does them all for you. I think this would be possible for this but you would have to play around with it.

photoshop

select the rectangular marquee tool

in the toolbar at the top, change the drop down menu to "Fixed Ratio"

enter the numbers of your ratio, in your case 16 and 10

then just drag out a selection rectangle, and move it round to get the best composition

image > crop

image > image size > 1280 x 800

save

*EDIT*

better still, use the crop tool, and enter the numbers 1280 and 800 in the toolbar, and then drag out a selection, move it round to get best composition, apply, save
