How do you keep your pc clean?

There are cases about that have filters on the fan inlets (Antec p182?), mate of mine has one and his computer never gets dusty. I'm the same as you so i'm currently saving up for one to put my main computer in.

Yes, p182 is great for that, among other things. I still have to clean the fans occassionally though, just wipte them down.

If your system does get clogged up with dust you can reduce your temps by removing it. Easiest way is to blast it out with a can of compressed air.

I did mine recently, was going to use the hoover but folk on here said 'blow don't suck'.

Didn't have any compressed air so used my foot pump with the football inflater nozzle (a hollow needle). This gave very controlled blasts of air which were easy to aim and shifted the dust like mad. I did it outside on one of the dry days we had this summer.

Take it to a Jetwash. I saw some guy once clean the inside of his car with a Jetwash, was interesting to see him try and start it as he also did the engine compartment.

well ive just sprayed everything in my pc with a compressed air can, it does spray some sort of liquid that dries up within seconds of touching anything. it didnt harm my pc in any way tho. temps dropped too :)

think cans of compressed air are fine as its dry..

water is only a problem if using a compressor as they have lots of water in the air so much so that you have to use filters when spraying paint with them else it ruins you respray...

I used a hairdryer on a cold setting, worked a treat. I imagine that with a hoover sucking up anything that is flying about will work great, thats what I'm gunna try next time!

Cans of air should be fine, but I usually unhook the power from it just to be safe :P
Plus blowing dust and crap into my room isn't helpfull so I usually do it outside. As long as it's not raining :)

Be VERY careful about doing this. The motors in hoovers and hairdryers give out changing electromagnetic fields that can induce currents (through electromagnetic induction) in your hardware, which can damage or even frying it.

Stick to a dry brush (toothbrush or small non-nylon paintbrush) or dry compressed air for fan/heatsink cleaning.

I had no problems, although if it is dangerous DON'T DO IT ANYONE, i will be to blame! I'm pretty sure the actual hoover is closer to my PC when I hoover my floor, it would just be the long tuby bit (technical term) thats close. You also don't have to put the hairdryer INTO the pc, there quite powerfull for blowing dust so a fair distance can be kept!

Has anyone else tried with a hairdryer and damaged there PC?

I use a handheld hoover. they are like £7 and the have a little brush on them so you brushing and sucking at the same time. Very good and component friendly.

The reason I jumped onto this thread to post that warning above is that my brother's friend used a hoover to clean his dust out, and ended up buying a new machine. He fried one of his two sticks of RAM, his board, his graphics card and even his hard drive's controller board. Not what you want.

I'm not saying this'll happen to everyone. If you've got a hoover with a long tube, the motor is nowhere near the PC and you're pretty safe.

ok, thanks for the warning! I'll definately be more carefull next time!! although keeping the hoover and hairdryer themselves away from the computer I can't see too much of a problem?

with compressed air there shouldn't really be any moisture present if you use it correctly, ie held upright. Shaking or tilting the can at all can caused the compressant to interfere with the nozzle and create moisture

I've heard horror stories of it spitting condensation out onto the motherboard and thus frying it. Is there any truth to this?

If you hold the can upside down it does, but not if using it the correct way up; don't know why though
