How do you know how good a graphics card is?

Their both very similiar cards. The 5850 is about 5% faster stock. Both OC about the same. MSI 5850 is nice because of the cooler and comes supported by MSI Afterburner (a really nice OCing program).

The 6850 is slightly newer tech and performs a bit better in crossfire configurations if you think you might ever go that route. Also it perform a bit better in tessalation enabled games, not enough really to consider though.

If you think you would never run crossfire, as a single card I would go with the 5850. If you think you might go crossfire later, I would maybe go with the 6850. Although 5850's crossfired are smokin' fast too.

I suppose overall I would go with the MSI 5850.

Here is a performance guide that might help:

It's only a guide (don't worry too much about not having the exact same production model).

Either way there is unlikely to be worlds of difference.

In game benchmarks using the games engine. The 3D mark tests are very synthetic and not very accurate.
