I have a button like simulatorman which requires me to aplly my foot on the brake and then lift the lever. So much effort Audi A8 D3 btw

Mine has a foot pedal with no button for the rachet, proof the button is superfluous for application

Mine too. I think Priuses have them as well.

The foot-operated parking brake being applied is a more gentle noise than the sound of a handbrake being yanked up anyway.
I'm sure those of 'us' who express the preference to pull against the ratchet, do so in a controlled fashion as if counting the clicks to ensure full effectiveness.
Otherwise there's the danger of being mistaken for a clod with no mechanical sympathy and onlookers might next anticipate the glorious sound of grinding gears.
