The plastic tabs either side say SKT open and SKT close but i've tried pulling/pushing and can't shift it. Is there trick?

The pin slots are slits and the cpu falls into the gap next to the joins in the socket. should i be ligning the pin to the sockets and pushing down or droping into the gap and pushing accross? Sorry about the n00b syle questions but been an AMD fanboy tillthis old lappy
