How do you switch a AV receiver to "pre-outs"

Great that it sounds, well... great!

I think it must be normal it coming from the speakers connected to the receiver. Not sure why it wouldn't disable the connected speakers though. You can get stereo amps that allow 2 sets of speakers to be connected, that allow you to disable one set. Others though, only let you use 1 set, or both. Might depend on the manufacturer maybe, how it's done.

No idea about the part mode. Might have a nose at the manual later, see what that's about.

If it operates in a similar way to my marantz, you can select the main & zone and inputs independently. I.e Main can be running from bluray whilst zone 2 is running CD and zone 3 is running PC. Mine can also output to zones whilst the main unit is in standby by pressing the appropriate zone button and selecting a source. My guess is that both the main and zone 2 were set on the same source hence you got sound from both sets of speakers.

Towards the bottom of this guide shows that you should be able to use zone 2 in the same way I can.

Party mode is as Kei describes, allowing same source to be played over main and zone 2, rather than each playing a different source. Useful for same music throughout a house if zone 2 speakers are in a different room.

One more thing?..... Am I right with thinking...

Using Pre-outs with an external amp will play music constantly with my other 5.1 speakers?...... Using Zone2 out to external amp will make the speakers play separately to my 5.1 speakers,?

Is this correct????

Yes, the receiver will output whatever audio is being played to the connected speakers and any external amp connected to the pre outs.

Going by what Kei has said, zone 2 can be used independently. Just had a quick scan through the online manual and this text seems to confirm that:-

"The multi-zone function allows you to play back different input sources in the room where the unit is installed (main zone) and in another room (zone 2)."

"For example, you are watching TV in the living room (main zone). Another person can be listening to the radio in the study room (zone 2)."

If you want no sound coming from the connected speakers, you could just set the main zone to an input source that is playing no audio, and set the zone 2 to whatever source you ant to play audio from.
