how do you take a screen shot

Press PrtScn button on your keyboard, this creates a temporary image (probably saved in Ram but it matters little) then go into some image editing program - MS Paint will do if you don't have anything else then paste the image and save to wherever you want. :)

look for the prt scr button on your keyboard then paste to a approprite program like paint or word then save

Is this like a survey of how people do it or a genuine question? The only reason I ask is it is rare to find someone with a top end pc like yourself who cant do basic windows tasks like print screen, no offence intended of course :)

Little tip for you..

ALT + PrtScr takes a screenie of the open window and not the whole desktop.

Saves cropping etc in some instances.

Another tip. If you have Vista you can use the sniping tool, this lets you just select any area of the screen and easily save it. Very quick and easy, I loves it!

good tip thanks saves me trying to work out how to crop :o:D

It makes a good job of croping it.
Very handy when doing instrutions etc.
Photoshop know the image on the clipboard size, and makes the file to fit.
Paint's default size leaves white on stuff say like this.

just out of interest..

Once you have the image, how do you get it into a post. I have seen people posting screen shots and would like to do that as well.
I found the insert image icon, but it asks for a web page (http://)
Cut and paste does not work either - was probably hoping for too much there!!

You need to host the image somewhere on the internet. a lot of options. Some places offer image hosting, sometimes a 'free' webhosting bundled with an internet connection.

I have my own webserver, so I upload the my images there.

one you have your image saved, you will have to upload it to an image-sharing website.
once the image is online, you can copy its address (http.//etc etc) and then paste it into the insert image box on this website.
