How do you take up lino?

Some numty has stuck tiles on top of the stuff which is the original stuff when the house was made. Tried pulling it but it tears and leaves the bottom half of the lino stuck to the floor. Gaa wish i had not started now!

I have also used a steam paper stripper as well as a heat gun before that way the house did not fill with smoke.
