I bought a Powerball a good while ago (no instructions or anything) and cant find any guides online ...

With the recent ocuk selling of these, maybe someone can provide an answer :)

I have seen videos, but none close up... so cant see the exact motion required :o

Put your pants on your head, run outside, and dance like crazy person for 30 minutes... I believe that works  :p :D

1. spin the middle bit as fast as you can with your thumb.
2. attempt to keep the momentum of the spinning going with circular motions of the wrist.
3. get ****** off cos you cant do it
4. back to one ^^
5. Repeat 1-4 about 100-200 times
6. Marvel at yourself once you can do it
7. spend ages trying to get the best score
8. End up with loads of blister on your hands.

:D :D :D :D

I think it's all down to your personal choice.

I don't know the best way but I have the screen on the top right of my palm (right-handed) and either:

1. Hold arm at 45 degrees (hand at bottom, elbow top) and wrist dropped to have the screen facing directly upwards, OR

2. Hold arm at 70 degrees (hand at top, elbow bottom) with the powerball facing sideways tilted to slightly face downwards.

I hope some of that made any kind of sense to you :)

Mine came with a cord.

Just hold it with the spinning bi facing downwards, and move your wrist in a circular motion. Once you get going, you can make smaller circles to get it going faster.

It comes with a cord for a reason. :/

I can't get it to work with just my thumb.

Edit: yes I can! :D

Edit: not very well...

just so im clear... how exactly do you exercise muscles with these? looks like you just hold them and thats well... about it.

does it vibrate or send electronic pulses or anything?

The pressure of holding the gyroscope still is exercise enough for your arm muscles.

Holding onto them when they're going at 10K rpm is tough as it is! Nevermind actually getting it to spin that quick. Check out some of the videos, these things pack enough power to get a full grown adult male to shake violently.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. The idea is the faster it gets, the harder it is to maintain control of the ball. It does work.

This way is more fu... oh wait you mean... ah... nevermind. ;)

They're pretty fun if you have someone to compete with.

It doesn't look like you're doing much with it, but after half a minute with one you certainly feel it :p

The high score feature on it makes it too addictive. I just dugg mine out from a few years ago, and i can get 10,800 - clearly in need of some practise! :(

batteries are quite tricky to change, the screws are tiny.

Edit: Just got 12,178 :D

I've had one of these for ages. Hadn't used it in a while but seeing them on OCUK peaked my interested again so I dug mine out today. I lost the string ages ago, so I tried with my thumb. Couldn't do it. Tried dozens of times but with no luck. So I hit upon the GENIUS idea of creating a new string! I got a bit of string and fed it round the ball. I pulled. But I lost grip on the string before it came out all the way and it got pulled back in and got wound up round the side of the ball mechanism. Oops. Tried to get it out but it was well and truly tangled up. So I hit the thing with a hammer and it cracked and split in two. It's well and truly shafted now so I guess I'll just have to buy a new one. Oh well.
