I've been learning to play my acoustic for about 3-4 months and i'm progressing fairly well and having fun.

Many people have recommend Guitar Pro 5, I've just got the demo and I downloaded a few songs for it.

Great it plays the files well . . but how on earth do I use it?

I've got the fret board up for the acoustic guitar and it shows you a few chords here and there. Am I completely missing the obvious?

I'd appreciate any help, thanks :)

Thats it basically.
You download a song and you watch somebody else playing it.
It becomes a million times more useful when you can get your hands on all the 'other' files that are still out there.
eg How do I play that Iron Maiden or Joe Satriani song?
Find song, load it into GP5 and voila, you'll be somewhere really close.
Even somebody like me who's been playing for 37 years can find it extremely useful when I can't be bothered to work anything out myself.
I personally think its one of the greatest aids to playing guitar EVER.

Of course, GP5 can also be used for writing your own stuff for you to pass on.

I just look at the tab (I can sight read tab fairly well). And press play, and it plays out the song, which you can change tempo of etc to play more easily, and hear/see what is going on.

I am quite fond of PowerTab (although it's MIDI).

Has a great database of songs :)

RSE on guitar pro is worthless anyway midi is best!!

you can import PT into GP plus GP has Drums and other instruments which beats powertab!
