How do you use utorrent?

Im new to using any thing like this so could someone help me please.

How do you use utorrent? How do you find the torrents for them? Do you have to go search them on google or do u just have to type it in somewhere and it will bring a whole heap up that you can choose form?

Because i have Opera all the torrents get done in there

If you have opera dont you need utorrent?



Edit: Ive canseled it in opera and ive put it in utorrent but my god its going slow

Please dont tell me that this is what a torrent does and they are slow like this? It says ive got 10 seeds with a 57 in brakets next to it 44 peers with 323 in brackets next to it. but its only downloading at speeds between .5kb/s and 7kb/s

Why is it doing this?

If you select tools>speed test you can run a quick test to see if you've got the right ports open, it should be a lightening fast download if you've got it set up correctly.

The only advice i would give is to change the default port that it uses. I didn't and caught some nasty trojans that find PC's with open ports, they look for specific ones that are default in P2P programs because most people don't change it.

Ok ive done that and it says the port is ok, It started to speed up about 20 mins ago and its at 30kb/s. Which is better but i want my full potential


How do you know what port to change to so you can avoid trojans and things and how do you do it?

I think you can use any port you like. Scroll down here until you get to the 'Manually forwarding a port' section.

I dont know anything about ports and port numbers

If UPnP is not available or does not work, it will be necessary to forward the port manually. Since we want to forward a single port, we need to set the listen port for µTorrent:
To set a single port, navigate to Options > Preferences > Connections
Click "random port" once, and note the port number provided. This will be the port number you will be forwarding in your router. (You may also assign a port number of your choice)
Uncheck "Randomize port each time µTorrent starts." The port number will no longer change each time µTorrent is started.

There is a fair few of 'em. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_TCP_and_UDP_port_numbers

Up to 65535 of them if you really wanted. Try uTorrent with the random port feature ON and see how that works. If that doesn't work just choose any number between 1 and 1024. There is an option in uTorrent I think to test a port instantly. So you can select a port number then test it to see if uTorrent can use that port or not.
